Meet The Makers

Glivam

Glivam was founded by Valerio Glisenti - a superlocal of the Engadin, whose life blends architecture, craftsmanship, art, and the quiet knowledge of the forest. A hunter and maker in the truest sense, Valerio created something both simple and extraordinary: a healing cream made entirely from herbs and plants he gathers himself in the woods.

What makes Glivam so special is not only its effectiveness - though our clients now use it for everything from dry hands to small injuries, and even as a facial cream - but the feeling it carries. It holds the essence of the Engadin. Its scent, texture, and power all speak of the place it comes from.

Glivam is more than a product. It’s the work of a young and deeply rooted creative mind - someone who understands this place from within and has given it a form you can hold in your hand.

The Ingredients

IVA (Achillea moschata)

Characteristics:

The musk yarrow is a strongly aromatic, fragrant, herbaceous plant and grows between 5 and 20 centimeters in height. Its form is feather-like with camphor-scented, linear leaves that are either completely or two- to three-lobed. The long-stalked dense flower heads, which are up to 15 mm wide, sit individually.

Constituents:
Bitter substances (Ivain, moschatin, achillein, resin acid, and Ivaöl).

Stone Pine (Pinus cembra)

Characteristics:

The essential stone pine oil, also called Swiss pine oil, is obtained through water steam distillation of the twigs of the stone pine tree along with its needles and cones. The scent of the oil is spicy, woody, and mild, with a pleasant balsamic note. It is used to strengthen and invigorate body, mind, and soul.

Constituents:
Anisaldehyde, capronaldehyde, crypton, dipentene, phellandrene, pinene, and sylvestrene.

Barberries (Berberis vulgaris)

Characteristics:

This shrub, up to three meters high, has rod-shaped reddish branches when young. Later, they become woody and turn grey. The leaves sometimes transform into thorns. The normal leaves are oval and relatively small, with slightly serrated edges.

Constituents:
Fruits: Vitamin C, capsanthin, tannic acid, and hyperoside.

Dandelion (Taraxacum)

Characteristics:

Stem with a single flower head, hollow, 5–30 cm tall, contains milky sap. Leaf rosettes are single, leaves pinnate, mostly divided, 2–8 mm long and wide. Involucral bracts during blooming 1.4–2 cm long. Plants are very form-rich.

Constituents:
Bitter substances, vitamins, minerals, choline, and inulin.

Alpine Edelweiss

Characteristics:

Particularly striking is the dense hairiness on the underside of the leaves. Due to its characteristic appearance, it can easily be mistaken for other plants. This star-shaped, white to yellowish plant is known as the “true emblem of the Alps.”

Constituents:
Flavonoids, tannins, and edelweiss acid.

Arnica

Characteristics:

Stems 15–60 cm tall. Basal leaves mostly in 1–3 opposite pairs. Flowers in 1–5 flower heads with 15–25 ray florets and numerous tubular florets.

Constituents:
Essential oils, flavonoids, and bitter substances.
